Achievements 2000 / 2006 in the Township of Dalkey
EARLY    2007
Castle Street :-
   1. Painted the small wall to the footpath at poster site near to the junction to Ulverton Road. ( Completed early 2007 )

Castle Street area alongside the Masonic Hall :-
  1. Planting of a tree ( completed early 2007 ) pic
  2. Erecting of a granite seat commemorating Harry Latham ( historian ) at Archbolds Castle.  pic

Council Car Park :-
  1. The raised bed was completed in 2006, but we had to add extra planting. ( upgraded spring 2007 ) pic

Dalkey Avenue :-
   1. Upgrade to base of Dalkey Hill adjoining Dalkey Avenue, on the hotel side of Burma Road ( completed 2007) pic

Dalkey Quarry :- ( Local Committee )
   1. Major litter clean up , overgrown briers & vegetation cut back ( completed 2007)  pic

Hyde Park on Hyde Road :-
  1. Planting of a further range of trees and a new landscaping. ( Some work has started early 2007 )  pic

Outside of the Councils Car-park :-
  1. The daffodils around the trees are to be replanted in the rear raised bed. ( started spring 2007 )

St Patrick’s Site opp. the AIB :-
  1. Bench seats to be cleaned and painted ( summer 2007 )
  2. The gable wall adjacent to the poster has been painted.  The painting of the back wall is scheduled late 2007.
  3. Planting of the soil area at the rear of the site.   ( also late 2007 )

St Patrick’s Square :- ( Local Committee )
  1. Painting of the concrete edging. ( Completed spring 2007)  pic
  2. Maintain the planting and cut the grass.

Street Furniture :- ( see separate report sent to DLRCC )

Survey of Waste Management :-  on line form      total waste survey to date
  1. The waste food establishments in Dalkey, restaurants, supermarkets etc were given a survey form to complete,
      to establish the quantity of this type of waste that is being generated, and how it is handled. ( Spring 2007 )

Ulverton Road :- Steps leading down to Bulloch Harbour  ( Local Group Project )
  1. The steps were cleaned back from overgrown vegetation, and each side was dug out & cleaned, then replanted
      with shrubs & a Rowan Tree ( started spring 2007 )   pic

2006
Awards 2006 :-
   1. Tidy Towns Awards :- 1st Prize County Award winner for Dun Laoghaire Rathdown section. pic
  2. An Taisca Irish Clean Coast Programme :- Certificate of Merit for outstanding Contribution to Irish Clean Coast
      Programme.  pic
  3. DLRCC Tidy Districts Competition. :-  1st Prize in the Community Environmental Award Category,
      to Dolores Smith of a Sub Committee

Barnhill Road / Killiney Towers :-
   1. New granite sign erected, old sign at removed ( completed 2006 )  pic

Bulloch Harbour :- ( Local Committee )
  1. Erection of a lovely granite stone inscribed "Bulloch Harbour" ( completed 2006 )  pic
  2. At the entrance to the harbour install & maintain a flower-filled boat. ( Yearly )
  3. Each year plant flower boxes for the pier. ( yearly )
  4. Installation of four new seats (wood & iron)  ( completed 2006 )  pic
  5. Installation of two granite seats commemorating the crew of the Ituna and Anne Burrows. ( Completed 2006 )
  6. Restoration of the Slipway ( completed 2006 but is an ongoing project )
  7. Installation and maintenance of Portaloos for Ladies & Gents. ( completed 2006 but it is a yearly project )
  8. Weekly litter collection and, in summer, mow the grass along the Harbour. ( Yearly )

Castle Street at Archbolds Castle :-
  1. Erecting of a granite seat commemorating Harry Latham ( historian ).  pic

Christmas Tree Lighting and arrival of Santa :-   pic
 This is an annual event, which we have to start the planning in October.
A live crib with animals, blessing & lighting of the Christmas Tree, carol singing, music, and arrival of Santa.

Dalkey Avenue :-
   1. New granite sign erected, old sign at Hillside removed ( completed 2006 ).  pic

Hyde Park on Hyde Road :-
  1. A hard surfaced perimeter path to allow persons of all ages to enjoy the open space. ( Completed late 2006)  pic

Library Lane :-
   1. Painting of the library and repair of the over the door signage ( completed late 2006 )

Litter Patrols :-
   1. Litter clean-ups on a regular basis summer & winter over a yearly schedule.  pic
  2. White Rock has a daily clean up.
  3. Vico bathing place has a daily clean up. ( situated below the Ramparts )


Outside of the Councils Car-park :-

Vico Ramparts :-
  1. The steps were cleaned back of overgrown vegetation.  ( Completed early 2006)  pic
  2. The brambles and grass area was cut back and maintained, on a twice yearly basis.  ( Completed early 2006)
  3. The concrete seat bases have been repaired.  ( Completed early 2006)  pic
  4. A new picnic table has been installed.  ( Completed early 2006) pic

Vico Road :-
   1. New granite sign was erected, & the old sign at Sorrento Road was removed ( completed 2006 )  pic
  2. Bottle Bank bins removed, as they were unsightly in such a scenic area.  pic

2005

   2.  Tidy Towns Awards :- Best Shop Front Awarded to McDonaghs Public House for Dun Laoghaire section.
  3. DLRCC Tidy Districts Competition. :- 1st Prize in the Best Presented Town / Village category. pic
  4. DLRCC Tidy Districts Competition. :- 1st Prize in the Community Environmental Award Category, to Dr Susan         McDonnell of Dalkey Tidy Towns  pic
   5.  DLRCC Community Competition. :- Dalkey Tidy Towns won 1st Prize in the Environment section

Barnhill Road / Killiney Towers :-
   1. New bench seat installed opposite the new granite sign.  pic

Castle Park / Ulverton Road Junction :-
   1. New granite sign erected, old sign at removed ( completed 2006 )  pic

  3. Surface upgraded with a cobble lock finish, as against the previous wasteland used for dumping.

New Bench Seats :-
Several new seats are installed / repaired, e.g.. opposite Killiney Towers, junction Ulverton & Castle Road, Ramparts.

Talks Given 2005 :-
  1. Slide show & presentation on Kitchen Waste & Garden Composting to both Gardening Clubs affiliated to
     (Dalkey Active Retirement Assoc.)
  2. Lecture on organic foods, to local schools and to a 80 strong group in the local public library,
     together with the knock on effect of reducing packaging and litter from the reduction of junk food consumed

2004
Awards 2004 :-

  1. Public Meeting Dalkey Town Hall with a slide show & presentation with the aim of educating and encouraging
     the public.
